Rita Simon has been in education for over 35 years in locations ranging from Jamaica, Bermuda, and here in the US. Her last 15 years have been spent in Lake County Schools – East Ridge High and Groveland Elementary. Her experience at these schools includes Achievement Liaison, English Teacher, Writing Coach, Literacy Coach and Curriculum Resource Teacher (CRT).
Rita holds degrees from Nova University, Ed. S., University of New Brunswick, M. Ed., Special Education, University of Maryland, B. Sc. Sociology, and the University of The West Indies, B. Ed. Her Florida Professional Educator Certificate includes Educational Leadership, Special Education, English Grades 6-12, and English for Speakers of Other Language (E.S.O.L.).
She enjoys teaching and has received several teaching awards including Teacher of the Year, Distinguished Teacher, and Outstanding Teacher Award. Her love for teaching and her deep desire to see students learn and excel are the motivating factors behind the many years in the profession. Mrs. Simon believes that all students can and will learn if they are instructed with strategies that meet their learning styles and needs. If they develop the student-teacher relationship that provides and fosters a high level of motivation in a safe and comfortable environment, the sky is the limit.
